10 RSS and newsreaders

Well, I found this week a bit more interesting. I subscribed to 2 WPL blogs, 1 newspaper and 1 tv stn as well as 2 library sites. I do see the value in subscribing to the news items as it allows you to view the highlights. I do however maintain that all this time spent viewing items electronically takes away from human contact. I wonder if that is not why people blog - to get some sort of human interaction in this hi tech world. Wouldn't it just be better to actually talk to someone about your thoughts. Is our world getting so rushed that we cannot find the time to actually communicate with actual words, facial expressions and heaven forbid - a gentle arm touch!!!

Do we really need to know all this information immediately!!!

  1. During my grandmother's last few years, e-mail was the only way I could have regular conversations with her. I could only get home once or twice per year and she couldn't hear phone conversations (and hated her TTY). I could e-mail her stories, photos, poems or just little notes to let her know that we were thinking of her and how much she meant to us. I treasure those conversations and they wouldn't have been possible without technology - so it's not all bad :-) In fact for those of us who live far away from family and friends, it's a great way to stay in each other's lives on a daily basis. I'm quite grateful for it.
